It is hard to “nut shell” exactly what it is the Joshua Project does. Our dream when we began this project 5 years ago was that we would end up creating an open entity that anyone in the community could become involved with. We wanted it to become the work of many, rather than the work of a few. We didn’t want to create a paternalistic, do-gooder organisation that could only be shaped by ‘those who know best’, we wanted to create something that would be shaped directly by the community and by the needs of the community.
The Joshua Project is working with children and young people to see them overcome barriers that block them from realising their potential. We have a Big Dream for a hope filled future that these children and young people can grasp. In our Big Dream the following barriers are broken down: poverty, educational disaffection, family breakdown, substance misuse, criminal activity, low self esteem, lack of self worth or sense of value, social exclusion and unfulfilled aspirations.
This Big Dream is coming true, we’re now able to tell story after story of lives that have been transformed. The Joshua Project is helping to see this Big Dream come true which in turn is providing hope to a generation that is growing up under a cloud of hopelessness. To see more stories of transformation occur and our Big Dream come true will take long-term commitment. That and generous sprinklings of faith, hope, laughter and just plain off the wall thinking that sees as possible what others think is impossible. It’s costly.
There’s pain every inch of the way. But it works. We have simply learnt to dream and imagine different possibilities and then we put in the blood, sweat and tears. Day in day out. At our convenience and inconvenience.
We hope that after browsing this website you too will want to contact us to find out how you can become part of our Big Dream by being part of the solution.
