Community Cinema For Great Horton

Community Cinema For Great Horton
The Joshua Project in Great Horton is making plans to further develop it’s Impact Centre building on Cross Lane (former Royals Bingo Hall and before that Plaza Cinema). The project is now putting plans in place to re-establish part of the building as a community cinema.
Joshua Project Chief Executive and local resident Rich Jones says “with a great deal of the original features still in place, including the stage and marvellous surround we are keen to complete the restoration of this building by putting in place the facilities to show films old and new that will be accessible by the whole community.” Rich is keen that the project continues to resource the community, he says “I’ve heard many great stories of community members meeting future husbands and wives in the cinema here, many have told me numerous stories about happy times as a young person in the Plaza Cinema, we’d love to recapture something of that positive history for the young people that we now work with in the community as well as for their families and other community members”.
The project is particularly keen to talk to those who remember the building as a cinema as well as to those who might be interested in being involved in some way in this development. There will be an opportunity to look inside the building and talk to Rich Jones on Wednesday 16th May for 1 hour from 12pm in the Impact Centre, Cross Lane, Great Horton, Bradford, BD7 3JT. If possible, please indicate that you will be attending by contacting the project on 0845 8052194, writing to ‘New Plaza Project, My Impact Centre, Cross Lane, Bradford, BD& 3JT or by emailing rich.jones@joshuaproject.org.uk.

6 Set To Ride For The Stars

Six set to ride for the stars
Joshua Project Chief Executive and local resident Rich Jones is a force to be reckoned with. Since setting the project up in 2007, it has gone from strength to strength. His latest fundraising adventure involves six people, six bikes and a map of Paris!
Based in an old converted cinema, the Great Horton-based facility now known as The Impact Centre, works with over 350 young people per week and also gives support to their families. There are youth clubs and drop in sessions, an advice and guidance service, a sports programme, fashion, music and media workshops and an educational support service to get involved in, and much more.
All of this good work comes at a price. The cost of running and maintaining the project is always a consideration but that doesn’t get in the way of Jones and his staff. On May 9th, six dedicated fundraisers are embarking on a 4 day trip called Ride For The Stars, cycling from London to Paris to raise much needed funds to support the development of and sustaining of
the project. They will don their Lycra and crash helmets to begin their 500km Parisian-bound adventure, to which you can donate. The team of six are taking on the challenge of a lifetime to raise much needed finances so that the project can continue to provide hope and opportunities for children, young people and their families in the area. As well as Jones the team includes Bradford Grammars former second master who is taking on this challenge to show support to the children and young people in the area as well as to celebrate his 65th birthday, a local IT expert, a media company director, a member of the local neighbourhood policing team and a BBC staff member.
Jones says, “the pain and hard work is definitely worth it, the children and young people in this area are inspirational, the least we can do is maintain a project that is giving so much hope and access to opportunities”.
To support the work of the project and ensure that they can maintain working hard for the community, please make your sponsorship pledge by emailing info@joshuaproject.org.uk, calling 0845 8052194 or log on to ride.joshuaproject.org.uk to
sponsor the cyclists on their trip. The Joshua Project hope to raise as much as possible, so any amount would be very gratefully received.
If you can manage to, please give generously to Jones and the scheme as they embark on this cycle challenge.

“In our own words (1)”
“In our own words (1)”
The video below is the first in the series of a set of short videos from the Joshua Project. This series will give children, young people, staff and volunteers the opportunity to share briefly why they think others should become part of the solution and ‘join us’.
This is the first in a series of videos we are putting together to give you a flavour of what the project is and about. During this series there will be short interviews with young people, staff and volunteers. If you feel stirred to get involved in anyway, please check out the ‘join us’ section on the website.
Thank you for watching.
